Year 3

Term 1 Timetable  Homework grid   Latest Year 3 newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have been working very hard in Year 3 this term!

Maths
We have been looking at 2 and 3 digit numbers and addition and subtraction strategies. This week we are beginning to look at measurement and have used centimetre cubes to measure our hand span, palm and pointer and pinky fingers. We have also used metre rulers to measure different parts of our school.

English
We have been using ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ to help us explore Titles, Settings and Characters. We have created interesting titles for stories, designed magnificent settings and formed cheeky characters.

We have been enjoying Literacy Block where we have been working on comprehension, spelling and handwriting activities.

We’ve had a ball practising our homework list words using the computers, play dough, paint, chalk and magnetic letters.

SoSE/HPE
Together we have explored healthy eating and what foods we need to eat for a balanced diet. We discovered the importance of fruits and vegetables and that we should “go for 2 and 5”. We also created our own fruit and veggie faces online.

Exercise is another important part of being healthy.
We shared with each other the different sports and physical activity that we enjoy. We created an exercise mural displaying lots of different sports and ways to keep physically active. The best physical activities are the ones that make you ‘huff and puff’ so both classes joined together to dance the afternoon away!

This week we have learnt about Sun Safety. To protect ourselves from the sun we need to ‘Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide’. We loved learning the Sun Smart Countdown song and decorating sun smart clothing pictures to hang in our rooms.

Art/Technology
We have turned our classrooms into forests and created a ‘Wild Thing’s’ backdrop.

We have looked at using ‘line’ in art and ventured into the secret garden to sketch the different lines we could see in the branches of trees. We got very messy using charcoal but the art looks great!

Congratulations to Liana from 3M and James from 3T who won the “Line Sketch Competition.”

We have received our recycled materials from Reverse Garbage which we will be using to create our very own ‘Wild Things’. Please keep sending in any materials that you think would be useful for our puppets.

Religion
During religion lessons we have been discussing positive and negative choices and consequences of our actions. We have learnt about the “Good Choices Plan” which we are being encouraged to use in the classroom and playground. This week we have written Lenten Promises, we made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday and attended an Ash Wednesday Liturgy in the under cover area.

Homework/Readers
The children have put in a great effort towards their homework activities. We would like to see all activities on the grid completed.

It’s great to see the children have been reading and remembering to swap their books on a daily basis. Keep up the good work!

Benjamin and Bobby have visited almost half the year 3’s. The high standard of work in the reading buddy journals is fabulous!
